Kim Jae-hwan gets no bites from the Major League

Jan 07,2020
Korean slugger Kim Jae-hwan failed to sign a major league deal via the posting system by Monday’s deadline, not an entirely surprising development given his disappointing 2019 season.

Kim’s Seoul-based agency, Sportizen, said Monday that the 2018 KBO MVP for the Doosan Bears couldn’t come to an agreement after negotiating with four MLB clubs. The MLB-mandated deadline for the posted player was 7 a.m. Monday in Korea, or 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time Sunday.

Kim was posted on Dec. 5, and the 30-day negotiating period came and went with very little buzz. The 31-year-old outfielder and designated hitter will now be back with the Bears for at least another year. He’s not eligible to be posted again until November this year.

Sportizen said talks with the four MLB teams picked up pace in the past two weeks, but the sides failed to narrow their differences.

Kim was represented in the United States by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) Sports
