Hyundai Motor unwraps its future city

LAS VEGAS - Hyundai Motor will show its “personal air vehicle” at the CES 2020 trade show today. Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice Chairman Euisun Chung told local reporters Monday that the “S-A1” would be commercialized before 2028.

라스베이거스 - 현대차가 오늘 개막하는 CES 2020 전시회에서 “개인용 비행체”를 공개한다. 정의선 현대자동차그룹 수석부회장은 월요일 기자회견에서 개인용 비행체 “S-A1”을 2028년까지 상용화할 것이라고 발표했다.

The personal air vehicle (PAV), a term coined by NASA, will run on electricity and soar into the sky vertically, with no need for a runway for takeoff. Technology-wise, it will be more like personal aircraft than cars, a Hyundai spokesman said.

개인용 비행체는 전기로 운행하고 이륙을 위한 활주로가 필요 없이 수직으로 날아오른다. 현대차 관계자는 기술적으로는 자동차가 아니라 개인용 항공기에 가깝다고 말했다.

A full-sized concept model of the S-A1 will be shown today at Hyundai Motor’s CES booth. It is designed to hold up to five people. The PAV is the first of Hyundai’s urban air mobility (UAM) lineup and the starting point of the carmaker’s future city vision announced Monday.

Also on Monday, Hyundai Motor and U.S. ride-hailing company Uber Technologies teamed up to develop electric air taxis.

월요일 현대차는 미국의 공유차 호출 회사 우버와 협력해서 전기 항공 택시를 개발하기로 했다.

“For our smart mobility solutions, we considered what truly matters in cities and in people’s lives,” said Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor’s executive vice chairman, at a company press conference Monday.
