SHI delivers a shuttle tanker to a customer in Norway

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) Monday delivered a 130,000 deadweight tonnage liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel shuttle tanker to Teekay Offshore in Norway from Geoje shipyard in South Gyeongsang.

A shuttle tanker is a ship designed for oil transport from an off-shore oil field.

Compared to ships powered by conventional fuels, the dual-fuel shuttle tanker, the Aurora Spirit, emits 85 percent less sulfur oxide, 98 percent less nitrogen oxide and 98 percent less fine dust.

“There will be growing demand for ships emitting less pollutants as environmental regulations become more and more stringent. In this regard, we will do our utmost to keep the highest market share in this area based on our advanced clean technology,” said a spokesperson for SHI.

The International Maritime Organization has strengthened environmental regulations on ship emissions.
