‘Time to Hunt’ is skipping theaters and heading straight to Netflix

Director Yoon Sung-hyun’s upcoming thriller “Time to Hunt” will head straight to Netflix on April 10, forgoing a theatrical release, the film’s distribution company Little Big Pictures announced Monday.

The film was initially set to hit local theaters on Feb. 26, after premiering at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival.

The highly-anticipated follow-up to Yoon’s 2011 debut “Bleak Night” stars young actors Lee Je-hoon, Choi Woo-shik, Ahn Jae-hong and Park Jung-min.

“After a long wait, we are here to deliver a piece of good news: ‘Time to Hunt’ will be streamed on Netflix to over 190 countries worldwide,” the company said in an official statement. “As the danger of the virus outbreak persists, we thought long and hard about what was the most effective and safest way for audiences to see the film.”

The film’s total production cost is reported to be 11.7 billion won ($9.2 million), with 9 billion won having gone into producing the film and 2.7 billion won to promote the movie.

As people spend more time at home, demand for streaming platforms such as Netflix has skyrocketed and it remains to be seen if other films will follow suit as the outbreak continues. Over 50 films that were scheduled to hit theaters in March and April have delayed their releases.
