'Dongdaemun Fashion' to Go Global

As the fall fashion season approaches, Dongdaemun market, which boasts world-class facilities and 27,000 stores, will hold the 'Dongdaemun International Fashion Festival' from August 30 to September 1. The festival will provide an atmosphere in which foreign traders will be able to familiarize themselves with Dongdaemun.

Dongdaemun has invited 400 foreigners, primarily from Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, to the event. The festival is co-sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and the Korea International Trade Association. An SMG official affirmed that the event is intended to promote foreign interest in Dongdaemun.

An opening ceremony and fashion show will be held at 6 p.m. on August 30 in the parking lot behind the Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium. 10 models clad in award-winning designer fashions from Dongdaemun stores will front the fashion show. If rain forces the show indoors, it will be held at the Shilla Hotel.

Another fashion show featuring some 120 outfits from 24 Dongdaemun stores will be held at 10 a.m. on August 31. Booths featuring Dongdaemun clothes will be showcased near the entrance. Leather goods, knit wear, and accessories will also be on display.

The group of foreign traders will visit on the last two days of the festival.
