The Baehwa Educational Foundation which operates a kindergarten, a girl's middle & high school, and a woman's university celebrated its 100th anniversary. The foundation's beginnings were humble with the opening of the 'Carolina School' in which Jesephin Campbell, a female nun educated two Korean girls in October 1898. It changed its name to 'Baehwa' in 1909.
It has specialized in female education allowing 42,000 students to graduate from middle & high school and 12,000 graduates from university. Yuk Young Soo, the former first lady and Olympic gold medalist Chun Yi Kyung graduated from Baehwa girl's high school. The foundation held many programs including the opening ceremony of the 'Campbell Welfare Center' commemorating the original founder.
