Korean Stamp Collection Wins Grand Prize at Beijing Exhibition

The 'Kingdom and Empire of Korea', a collection of stamps and mail-related memorabilia dating from 1884 to 1905, has won the grand prize at the '99 World Philatelic Exhibition' held at Beijing.
The grand prize of the exhibition, which is sponsored by the Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP), is given to a philatelic collection selected from those displayed, some of which have won more than three prizes at international exhibitions in the last 10 years.
The 'Kingdom and Empire of Korea', submitted by the vice-chairman of the Philatelic Federation of Korea, Lee Jung-ku, consists of the first Korean stamp and envelope and other stamps from the Old Korean era.
Seven Korean collections, including Kim Yo-chi's 'Ewha Stamp' and Park Sang-un's 'French Painting in 19th Century' won prizes at the exhibition.
