Koreans Surveyed as Asia Heavyweights

Koreans are the second-fattest people in Asia next to Malaysians.

According to the results of research by the Malaysian Obesity Research Institute, 20.5 percent of Koreans are overweight, and 1.5 percent are considered obese (over 20 percent above their ideal weight).

Malaysians are the fattest in Asia with 21 percent of the population overweight and 6.2 percent obese. Thailand has 16 percent of its people overweight and 4 percent obese, Chinese people are 13.3 percent overweight and less than 2 percent obese. Japan has the smallest rate of overweight people comprising only 2.4 percent of its population, and Singapore has only 6 percent.
