Landfill to Be Changed into Ecological ParkThe Ministry of Environment (ME) revealed on April 7 that a landfill adjacent to Sangam Stadium, the main stadium of the 2002 World Cup, will be changed into an environmental park.
The ministry said it would pay for the project with $152 million in funds taken from the national treasury.
In all, the government plans to spend $1.2 billion this year to transform the landfill into a park. The government also plans to construct an ecological and an athletics facility for local residents.
In a interesting move, the ME announced a plan to recycle methane gas which is produced by the rotting garbage.
