MSO Korean Contest Will Be Held on July 22

An exhibition competition for the Korean Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO) will be held at the COEX Building in Samsung-dong, Seoul from July 22 to 25th.
This battle of the brains is not strictly a contest for the quick of mind but also a festival celebrating games of skill. The festival portion will focus on providing information on what the World MSO is all about and set the stage for Korea's first regular Mind Sports Olympiad next January.
The contest site is divided into three zones: the Oriental Zone, featuring Badook (Korean checkers), Chang Ki (Korean chess), and Omok (a version of Badook); the Occidental Zone, where players compete in chess, bridge, and othello; the Network Game Zone for popular computer games such as StarCraft, The Kingdom of the Wind, FIFA99, and Rainbow6. At each event, a seminar will be given on the intricacies of each game as well as a tricks of the trade and a magic show.
The winners of each event can qualify for the third MSO World Contest in the United Kingdom this August. The winners of each event in the Network Zone, however, will be on their way to 'Silicon Valley' in California.
The MSO features competition in 40 events including chess, bridge, memory skills, Mathematics. It also includes a computer olympid, related to creative thinking in utilizing the latest software and network communications skills such as on the Internet.
Since the first MSO contest in 1997, it has been held each year during the last week of August. This year it falls on August 21 and runs for nine days.
