More People Going to the Doctor

Koreans are visiting the doctor or pharmacy more than ever. According to a 1999 survey conducted by the Korean Medical Insurance Management Corporation found that public servants and education professionals (professors, teachers, support staff) holding medical insurance plans were amking more claims for insurance benefits and medecinemore often than the average. Survey results show that on average, people went to the hospital 7.3 times a year, up from 6.3 times last year. Prescription numbers have also risen to 1.5 times yearly, which is a 24 percent increase from last year.
As claims increase, average doctors' bills have risen to 253,000 won from 219,000 won, insurance subscribers paying 84,000 won or 33.4 percent of total medical fees.
