New Approach For Korean War Study

The first historical academic conference focusing on the Korean War will be held in the Sejong Cultural Center on June 10. The Organization of Korean Historians will host the conference.

Instead of discussing the conflicting ideologies behind the war, actual proof based upon wartime records will be utilized. The organization will analyze the Korean War again based on records from the United States and the Soviet Union. It was decided the topic of the conference should be "A New Understanding of the Korean War: from separation towards unification."

Ki Kwang-seo, a professor from Chosun University, researched the Soviet Union's North Korean policy before and after the War based on records from the Soviet Union. He said Stalin established the non-intervention policy for the Soviet Union regarding the Korean War.

Do Jin-soon, a professor from Changwon National University, will present "An Assignment to Recognize the Korean War for the Reconciliation and Unification of The Two Koreas." She said the topic of study on the Korean War should not be a one-sided ideology for peace.

She also emphasized that the war had not yet officially ended, and that details for a comprehensive truce were needed.

PhD An Jung-ae, a specialist in South Korea-U.S. relations, will explain the organizations and activities of the U.S. Force Korea's advisory group during the Korean War. Yang Young-jo, a Korean War specialist, will analyze how conflict broke out during the Korean War.
