Nike Outruns Reebok in OlympicsNike became the official Olympic sponsor for the 2000 Sydney Games beating out archrival Reebok on Monday.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the Sydney Olympic Organizing Committee gave the nod and a contract to Nike, the world renowned sports equipment company, to be the official sponsor for the 2000 Summer Games.
This completes an olympic sweep by Nike, which was not only picked as the official sports apparel sponsor for the 2000 Sydney Olympics but also the Paralympics, the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athenes.
Reebok refused to cough up the 10 million dollars the Australian government sought for the exclusive rights.
