It was reported that the noise level for motorcycle gangs' remodeled motorcycles, which have have modified or removed the silencer on their mufflers, is nearly 2 to 3.6 times the normal level.
The National Institute of Environmental Research announced on May 4 that the gang motorcycles are 14.8 or 18.4 dB higher than normal and at increasing speeds it is 10.3 or 12 dB higher than when driving at normal speed, according to the report comparing and analyzing the gang motorcycle with normal ones.
Since the dB scale is logarithmic a small numberical increase is a large increase in loudness.
In this test, aimed at the two kinds of 125cc class motorcycles preferred by the motorcycle gangs, a normal motorcycle's noise level with rapid acceleration was 70.6 or 72 dB, comparable to a phone ringing.
