Prehistoric Shell Mounds Found off Inchon

A research team with the Cultural Properties Bureau proudly announced that it had unearthed 86 sites including 55 'shell' mounds in Ongjin Township near the port city of Inchon.

This discovery is a great help to research conducted so far of the western islands and the nearby coastal area. The sites dating from prehistoric Korea are remarkable especially the 25 other shell mounds made by the first prehistoric peoples to live on the peninsula, three of which were found on Soyonpyong Island.
