Record Breaking Number of Koreans Depart in July

The number of Korean people traveling abroad in July shattered the previous record as the nation recovered from the financial crisis.

According to the Kimpo Immigration Control Department of the Ministry of Justice on August 6, the number of people who left the country last month was recorded at 475,274, a 3.6 percent increase from July in 1996 (458,949).

The total number of Koreans who departed Korea prior to August of this year reached 2,520,000, exceeding the total number for 1996 (2,490,000).

An insider from Kimpo Immigration Control commented, "With this rate of increase, any record could be broken."
