Regular Tours to Tokto Islands

An excursion ship called the 'Tonghaeho' has initiated regular tours to the Tokto Islands in the East Sea as of June 5. The islands as well as their ownership have been a point of controversy between Japan and Korea for some time.

On weekdays, the ship leaves Todong Port at 7a.m. and returns at 2 p.m. However, passengers are not allowed to disembark underlining the delicate situation surrounding the islands.

Up to now, there had been excursions out to the islands when a sufficient number of people showed interest, making for a rather erratic tour schedule.

In response to criticism for arranging tours, Yang Byung-hwan of the Tokto Tourist Development group, which also supervises tours to nearby Ulung Island, said that there have also been Tokto tours coming from Japan.

Fares to the islands are ₩35,000 and ₩15,000 for those under 12 years of age. For more information or reservations, call (0566)791-7010.
