On August 29, the Korean Meteorlogical Administration (KMA) said, "Because the typhoon is now moving towards Hwanam Province in China, the Korean Peninsula will not be directly hit by the typhoon. However, the high moisture content around the typhoon will bring heavy rainfall to the Korean Peninsula."
The severe downpour during last week occurred because of typhoon Bilis which, after being weakended by a tropocal depression from inland China, brought heavy cloud cover to the Korean Peninsula.
The KMA added, "It is expected to rain starting August 30 in the Southern part of Korea and by August 31 it will be raining nation-wide. The rain should end sometime during the weekend."
