Skiing in Kangwon To Open Nov. 25

Major ski resorts in Kangwon Province will start opening Nov. 25, they announced Thursday.

Yongpyong Resort, Phoenix Park Ski World, Hyundai Sungwoo Resort and Alps Resort said they would first open one or two beginners' slopes on Nov. 25 and will have every trail open by the end of December.

The price of a skilift ticket is expected to increase at least 5 percent over last year. At the Yongpyong Resort, for example, the price for a daytime lift pass is 35,000 won ($25) and 22,000 for a nighttime pass. It was previously 34,000 and 17,500 won respectively. The ski rental fee is 16,000 for daytime and 11,000 for nighttime.

Resorts will give a discount on lift and ski rental fees to local residents.
