TV Program Rating System Will Be Enlarged
The TV program rating system which previously only applied to movies will be expanded to almost every network TV program excluding news and sports programs. The Broadcasting Reform Committee announced on February 4, 'We have continuously sought to improve the state of broadcasting and we are introducing the TV program rating system so as to guarantee a safe viewing time period.'
Under this system TV programs will clearly post the recommended age for viewing.
When and how this system will be fixed will not be determined until after the New Broadcasting Law passes in the National Assembly in the first half of this year.
Professor Kang Nam Jun of Hanyang University said, 'In the U.S. and European countries, this system was introduced three or four years ago. Parental participation is mandatory in order to make this system a success.'
