[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Forgotten athlete gets recognized

I am an American schoolteacher who was in Japan and Korea during the World Cup. I read your article about Han Chang-wha ("Forgotten Man," J-Style, June 22). I found it moving and disturbing.

I was wondering if anything has been done to improve this man's (and his wife's) condition since the publication of your article.

I was also wondering if you know any way I could contribute something (an address or organization that would see to it that the money got to the right place) to help out this gentleman.

(Editor's Note: Han Chang-wha, 77, disabled and living without a pension, was a member of Korea's 1954 World Cup team. Thanks to Lee Chang-gil, an official with the Korean Organizing Committee for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Mr. Han was able to obtain a ticket to Korea's World Cup match against Germany in Seoul. The Korean Football Association plans to honor the surviving members of the '54 World Cup squad).
