[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Keep spirit of the Cup from dying

In June the whole country was colored red. During every game that the Korean team played, my husband and I went to the Han River and our two sons went to Gwanghwamun, downtown. It was exciting to watch our Korean team advance to the round of eight and then to the semifinals. During the game against Italy, I cheered with all my heart. I was proud of the Korean players and the Korean people. As a result of the undying support and the outstanding performance of the Korean team, the government made July 1 a special holiday.

But the heat of the World Cup should not end here. In order to commemorate the moment, it would be nice if everyone dressed in a red shirt each year on July 1, even if it is not again named as a national holiday. The support and the cheers on the street were not planned by the government; rather, the people voluntarily participated. In the same spirit, therefore, all our people should once more voluntarily wear a red shirt next July 1.
