[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Peddlers are a traffic menace

I am completely fed up with street stalls and nightmarish traffic jams.

There are six crosswalks at an intersection in front of a huge building in Sindaebang-dong, Dongjak, Seoul. The nearby area is a huge complex of buildings, including hospitals, department stores, offices, apartments and there is a big park. Thus, being a center of traffic, the intersection is almost always swarming with vehicles and pedestrians.

But for quite some time, the curbs have been filled with small trucks at which street venders work. The truck stands are worsening the traffic at the intersection that is already congested. Buses can not pull over to let the passengers get on and off and people have to walk into the street to catch a cab. It is unbearably frustrating to walk through streets packed with pedestrians between those stands.

What are the district office and the police doing? When will they close all these illegal stalls? Aren't they also stuck in this miserable traffic jam?
