Dutch treat: toasting a royal wedding, master artist

The Seoul Arts Center is not where diplomats typically throw soirees. But a lively bash held on a recent evening by the ambassador of the Netherlands, Hein de Vries, was no garden-variety party. Mr. de Vries invited his friends and associates to celebrate an event that had taken place earlier this month back home: the wedding of his Royal Highness the Prince of Orange to Maxima Zorreguita of Argentina.

A videotape of the newly betrothed in an extravagant horse-drawn carriage, complete with palace guards in full regalia, was shown on a large screen while guests dined. The gathering also served to spotlight an exhibition of works by Rembrandt.

The Rembrandt show is a major collection of etchings and drypoints on loan from the Rembrandt Museum in Amsterdam. Some 90 prints and 2 originals are divided into seven categories, including self-portraits, nudes and landscapes.

The exhibition runs through Sunday. For more information, call the Seoul Arts Center at 02-580-1300 (Korean service only) or the Dutch Embassy at 02-737-9514.
