With a Song and Some Sips, 600 Celebrate 4th

Wednesday, July 4, was the 225th anniversary of national independence in the United States. To honor that day, the U.S. Embassy held an invitation-only reception at the Grand Ballroom in the Hyatt hotel in central Seoul. Evans J. R. Revere, acting American ambassador to Korea, welcomed more than 600 guests, including ambassadors, American Chamber of Commerce members and Korean dignitaries. Alaska's King Island dancers performed and those in attendance feasted on an American buffet.

Eugenia Primis, the reigning Miss Alaska, told the Joong-Ang Ilbo English Edition how she felt about being in Korea to celebrate Independence Day:

"I came to Korea to sing the national anthem. I'm a cellist, but this time I didn't play. My time in Korea has been a truly wonderful, incredible experience. I've celebrated every Fourth of July back home in Anchorage, but this is the first time I've done that abroad. While staying in Korea for a little over a week, I got to meet so many interesting and important people."
