[NEW FILMS]"Mr. Deeds"
Published: 06 Jan. 2003, 00:31
Comedy / 91 min. / English -- Opens Friday
Adam Sandler is back with a remake of Frank Capra's "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town." He plays Longfellow Deeds, a small-town pizzeria owner who learns first-hand how money can change people.
His deceased uncle, the owner of a media conglomerate, generously leaves him $40 billion. He moves to New York City and starts a new life, complete with servants and mansion. A tabloid television reporter, Babe Bennett (Winona Ryder), presents herself as an innocent small-town girl to do an expose on Deeds. But she ends up falling for him instead.
Sandler's more recent film, "Punch-drunk Love" has gotten great reviews in the United States. This, sadly, is no "Punch-drunk Love."
