The JoongAng Daily's North Korea Net will close down from today, Monday, January 13, 2003. Our apologies and thanks to the readers who visited the Web site regularly over the last two years. Unfortunately, staffing coupled with other internal problem make it impractical for us to continue the service.

The site went online in January 2001, about six months after the groundbreaking inter-Korean summit of June 2000, with a view to offering daily news and regular analysis on the North from respected North Korea specialists.

While the Analysis section provided what we considered an in-depth look into the politics surrounding the Korean Peninsula as well as economic changes within the communist regime, feature stories often looked at more everyday aspects of life in the North.

The Column section offered editorials and commentary from the JoongAng Daily.

We would also like to thank the Associated Press for providing us with access to timely news and analysis on the North so that we could better serve you, our readers.

Thank you,

North Korea Net staff
