&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Safety jitters on the train

As I rode the subway today I looked around the cars, thinking of the disaster in Daegu. Plastic materials were everywhere, seats were covered with synthetic fabric, windows closed. I wondered if I could survive a fire in the car I was in.
Worse yet, I pondered how I would escape in the event of an emergency more likely than a madman with a jug of gasoline, like a derailment or head-on crash. How would I get out? I did not have a clue and still do not. And that worries me.
I watched NHK news tonight (Feb. 19) as the Japanese commentator talked about safety on Japanese subways, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, etc. I have yet to see anything about how or if it is even possible to exit a subway car in an emergency situation in Korea.
