&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Tripwire should be reviewed

The term “tripwire” is used to describe the necessity of continuing a strong military alliance between Korea and the United States. A tripwire is commonly known as a cord stretched across a path that triggers an explosion when someone (like invading North Koreans) “trips” on it.
The question is, should American troops be used for this purpose in a country where a recently elected president rose to power riding a wave of “Yankee-go-home” sentiment.
Is it really in the best interest of the United States to stay and possibly sacrifice the lives of thousands of America’s sons and daughters to protect a sovereign democratic country that needs to learn to protect itself on its own?
After this nuclear crisis ends, the number of American troops will be reduced. The reduction should take place before a possible war.
