&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Allies using bombs that are banned

I was very shocked by a recent news report that British and American forces were using cluster bombs in their air-strikes against cities in Iraq.
Cluster bombs, which comprise many smaller bomblets, are internationally forbidden by the treaty of Ottawa because of the high risk they pose to civilians.
The use of those weapons on the innocent Iraqi civilian population is not only a war crime [according to the 4th Geneva Convention, which says that the deliberate use of bombs or other weapons enlarging the risks to the civilian population is a war crime], it is also a great blow to the commonly accepted humanitarian views of the world, reflected in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
