[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Banks reap bonanza on Labor DayI went to a bank on May 1, Labor Day. Since it was a bank holiday, I had to withdraw money from an ATM. Looking at the receipt after the transaction, I noticed the bank took a transaction fee. I realize it was a bank holiday but May Day is not a national holiday and is a normal working day for most people.
I think it is unfair for banks to charge transaction fees for use of ATMs on May Day as they do on national holidays.
I may have paid just a few won but thousands of people across the country must have gone to banks on that day. Banks, in other words, reaped a tremendous amount of money without doing anything. I am upset that banks are trying to make up for their operating losses with various transaction fees. Banks should return the fees accumulated on May Day to their clients.
