[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Seoul noisy everywhere
Published: 09 May. 2003, 00:08
I agree completely with Brandon Butler’s letter in the May 8 JoongAng Daily, complaining about the level of noise pollution in Seoul.
Go into a supermarket and try to concentrate on your shopping list amid the din created by the hawkers. Many of them even have mikes and amplifiers to ensure that you will never escape them. Try reading the newspaper at home without being distracted by trucks with external speakers blaring music and advertisements. Then there is the dry cleaner, whose 7 a.m. bellowing for customers echoes in the apartment stairwell.
Urban life anywhere is noisy enough without adding this kind of pollution.
