&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Card firm says, ‘Sorry’ and no more

I went to a showroom recently to purchase a car. Among the various discounts available, the staff recommended the new discount service that they were promoting with an affiliated credit card company. All I had to do was apply for a credit card, so I did through the Internet.
A week passed and I received a letter from the credit card company saying they were unable to issue me a card. I am a frequent user of credit cards because of my job and have never had any credit problems.
When I called the credit card company to ask the reason for their denial, the representative merely said, “Your total points are too low,” without giving me a detailed explanation.
I understand that credit card companies are enforcing stricter rules because of the increase in defaults. What I cannot understand, however, is their unwillingness to give a good explanation about why an application was rejected.
