[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Smutty spam upsets reader
Published: 05 Aug. 2003, 00:38
A beep sounded from my mobile phone as I enjoyed much-needed Sunday leisure. The beep announced the arrival of a text message. “There is no one to send me a text message,” I said to myself. The message astonished me: obscene words to promote adult service that I cannot even mention.
As I was upset, I called the phone number on the message. No human, but an automatic response system answered my call. With several trials and tracings, I found the advertising firm that promoted these messages. An employee promised not to send me such a message again.
It seems not many people call up the firm to complain about the message. I hope the law enforcement authorities work to prevent the spread of obscene spam text messages.
