[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Salesmen pressured me to buy
I visited a large bookstore recently to buy English conversation material. I found a monthly magazine to study English, published by a well-known foreign language institute. I liked the content and organization of the book and nearly bought it. A salesman from the institute advised me to subscribe for a year because the institute would not sell just one issue. The price of a one-year subscription was 300,000 won ($250). I refused to pay the subscription fee because I did not have the money. On my query, a store clerk said buying just one issue of the magazine was possible.
I visited another bookstore. Another salesman pushed me in the same way. I no longer hold the language institute in high regard.
