[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Volunteers ignored at Daegu games
Published: 19 Aug. 2003, 23:42
I volunteered for to be an interpreter at the Daegu university games. The Daegu city government announced that buses would extend their operating routes to the vicinity of the stadiums on Thursday when the games open. Because there are chartered buses for athletes, they don’t have to use mass transportation.
Volunteers who work at the games have clamored for extended bus routes. We have to change buses several times to get to the stadiums during our preparation work for the games. The city government ignored us, but will extend bus routes during the games for spectators.
The quarters for volunteers are not equipped with the basic necessities we need; although they are newly built, they look like tents. We deserve better treatment. We are supposed to smile always, but our treatment makes that hard.
