[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Assaulting ginkgo trees should end
Published: 05 Oct. 2003, 22:58
The streets of Seoul are now covered with beautiful colors as the season has changed from summer to fall. Yet not all is beautiful as people try to knock off the ginkgos from ginkgo trees. People are often seen shaking and kicking the trees to get the ginkgos that are not yet ripe.
The streets are covered with fallen ginkgo leaves and the trees are left nearly naked. Some people even use a fishing pole or a long wooden stick. After collecting the ginkgos people never clean up the mess they have created.
And since not all ginkgos are collected, those that are left on the ground create a stench. Some people just break the branches, which can inconvenience drivers since some of the broken branches block a view of the road.
The government should restrict people from banging the ginkgo trees.
