[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Short-track decision was about money

My son earned the third spot on the World Cup team and wanted to attend the World Cup in Korea, but due to a conflict in scheduling, did not want to attend the China World Cup. The U.S. federation could have sent a team to participate in Korea without Apolo Anton Ohno, and Apolo could have participated in China. However, the U.S. federation told Shani that they could NOT afford to, and would NOT, split the tickets or send an alternate to China. Then Apolo pulled out and the U.S. federation had no desire to send the rest of the team to Korea. Instead of telling them that they were not worthy of the expense, the U.S. federation manipulated the other team members into thinking it was their decision not to attend the Korea World Cup, when it was actually just another opportunity to save more money.
Whenever anyone asks my son his favorite place to skate short track, he always tells that person “Korea” because the Korean fans really know short track, treated him with respect and cheered for him like he was one of their own.
