“Monks aid Christmas drive,” an article you printed on Dec. 16, 2003, presented an overwhelming scene. After reading this article, I told myself, “The world is changing.” A Buddhist monk ringing a bell in front of a Salvation Army charity kettle is certainly unusual and unexpected. Today, most people expect to receive something in return when showing charity. It is not common to see a person like this Buddhist monk who tries to help without a reward in return.
In a world like ours, where many people need encouragement and strength, it is necessary to be wide open. Would I have the strength to help others despite my religion?
