[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Get tough on drunken drivers
Published: 25 Dec. 2003, 22:43
Driving after drinking is the same as committing suicide. Drivers in Seoul don’t seem to understand the seriousness of drinking and then driving. This is partly because of the low penalty for being caught.
I personally saw my dad driving after drinking and I couldn’t keep my eyes off him and the road. I had to be conscious all the time. It was very lucky for my dad that there were no police to check him.
Putting aside whether a license should be suspended or revoked, drivers in Seoul should realize that their irresponsible decision to drive after drinking can take away their own lives as well as the lives of others. The national police should make the punishments more severe or increase the number of crackdowns to awaken Seoul drivers about the issue.
