[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Lee to show his talent in Japan

The article “Lee snubs Dodgers to join Japanese team” by Wohn Dong-hee on Dec. 12 described Lee Sung-yup’s career decision.
On Oct. 2, Lee set a new Asian home-run record by slamming his 56th home run. Last month, Mr. Lee visited several teams in the United States, including Los Angeles and Seattle. Los Angeles showed great interest in Mr. Lee, but unfortunately he failed to reach a deal.
At a press conference, Mr. Lee said he would join Japan’s Lotte Marines next season.
Many Korean baseball fans don’t agree with Mr. Lee’s decision to go to the Japanese league. But Mr. Lee said, “If I stayed in Korea I could earn that much, but I want to test my skills in a new environment.” He added, “It’s not all about the money; if I stay in Korea, U.S. major league teams won’t change their attitude about me.”
It is a sad fact that major league baseball doesn’t believe in the Korean league. Because Mr. Lee won’t go to the United States next year, many Korean fans wanted to see him play here. When Mr. Lee goes to Japan, he will show his talent and be the pride of Korean professional baseball.
