[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Near-miss by ambulance

I was recently spared from a fatal car accident at a pedestrian crossing near my home. As the crosswalk is unmarked, sometimes I feel the temptation to ignore traffic signals when I am heading to work, but I have never done so.
One day, a hospital emergency vehicle passed in front of me at a furious speed while I was crossing the street. And I was crossing the sidewalk at the right signal. The driver just drove through the crosswalk without stopping to observe the traffic signal, leaving me startled.
Emergency vehicles run at maximum speed to save lives of patients who need urgent treatment. But that emergency driver almost killed a pedestrian by ignoring the traffic signal.
The drivers of emergency cars and related hospital officials should pay more heed to safe driving habits.
