[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Inconsiderate flash mobs

There was a commotion in the Yeongdeungpo subway station a few days ago. Hundreds of students in their teens and 20s flocked together and were shouting to scare by-passers. The gathering was a so-called flash mob.
The flash mob performs a surprise show for a short period in a street, without any purpose. As members of flash mobs increase, we can see flash mobs creating discomfort to citizens so often in the crowded places, such as Gangnam subway station, Myeongdong and Sinchon.
They may be pleased at a surprise show or share a collective consciousness through the action.
But the majority of citizens don’t understand their behavior and feel uneasy. They also cause traffic jams by occupying roads without permission and sometimes they litter the streets with balloons and firecrackers.
Flash mob members should take others into consideration when they enjoy their youthful bravado.
