[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Mind the rules of the road

When I was driving in my neighborhood, I slowed down as I entered a tunnel. Suddenly a large freight truck passed me and suddenly swerved into my lane.
I was so surprised, I slammed on my brakes and had to slow down. The cars that were behind me also slammed on their brakes, one after another, I could hear the sound of tires screeching on the road.
Fortunately, there weren’t many other cars in the tunnel, so we all avoided what could have been a huge accident.
The roads in the tunnel were separated with a single solid line, which means one is not allowed to pass, or to change lanes. Giving a signal before changing lanes is another basic rule of driving that everyone knows.
Driving into a tunnel, there is a split-second when you can’t see well because of the sudden change of light. That is why it is important to keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. But the truck I mentioned earlier did not follow any of these safety rules.
Safe driving is the responsibility of all drivers, but especially for the drivers of large trucks. There is more danger at stake if they make a mistake. I hope all drivers can drive safely.
