[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Reality and reality TV
Published: 18 Feb. 2004, 22:45
Once again we are treated to another article on Korea’s addiction to television, “Getting a full dose of American reality TV” ( Feb. 17). The ‘reality’ of such TV is it’s just people watching one lot of bad, irrelevant programs instead of another. I truly believe that Korean people would watch paint dry ― if, and only if, it was on TV.
Meanwhile a collective yawn was heard around the country after media reports on a North Korean family being gassed for chemical weapons research at the Hoeryong concentration camp in North Hamgyong province.
That’s the ‘reality’ of life in North Korea in 2004 but obviously not as important as what shoes and bag Paris Hilton buys.
