“Gaepaljaga sangpalja” is a Korean saying that means a dog has an enviable lot in life. You’ll understand why after visiting Oh, My Dog! at Galleria Department Store in Apgujeong-dong.
A French chain selling high-end accessories for the discerning canine, Oh, My Dog! carries not just, for instance, perfume for dogs, but a different perfume for each stage in a dog’s development.
“The shoppers come to look around to see what this shop is about. Usually, they just go away when they see the price tag,” said manager Kim Yeon-bae. “But the pet owners mostly end up buying our products when they get to know the whole concept of Oh, My Dog!”
The “whole concept” is products that nurture the friendship between dog and owner. Certain to inspire loyalty in a dog, for instance, is the store’s line of canine apparel ― you know, because dogs enjoy wearing clothes so much.
Oh, My Dog! perfume ― 100 milliliters sells for 55,000 won ($47) ― is made with natural scents, so as not to irritate the dog, according to the shop. It’s rubbed into the fur, and the scent remains for about three hours.
The mildest perfume is recommended for puppies three to 12 months old. After that, he or she can graduate to stronger scents; the most fragrant is for dogs more than two years old, by which point your pet will probably have become fashion-savvy enough to ask for a Louis Vuitton water dish (not sold here, or anywhere, as far as we know, though you might try Itaewon).
If you’re not willing to drop 55,000 won on perfume for something that licks its own hindquarters, consider Oh, My Dog! shampoo, at a mere 23,000 won. The shop also carries olive-scented Oh, My Cat! perfume, if you’re one of those people.
