[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Cheers for the scientists
Published: 19 Feb. 2004, 22:27
Last week, I was thrilled to read the newspaper’s articles that Korean researchers succeeded in cloning human embryo cells and extracted stem cells from them for the first time in the world. I would like to send endless congratulations to Hwang Woo-suk and Moon Shin-yong, professors of the Seoul National University, who led the remarkable accomplishment.
Seeing the breakthrough achievement that will contribute greatly in treating incurable diseases, the medical and science world erupted with excitement.
I feel so proud to be Korean, seeing Dr. Hwang and Dr. Moon’s achievement. I strongly hope that our country’s biotechnology industry benefits from such an accomplishment.
This should also be an opportunity to encourage engineering students and experts. To this end, the government must not hesitate to make investments in the field.
