[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Reality shows and insects should be no problem here

I enjoyed reading your reporter Park Soo-mee’s article on the new popularity of U.S. “reality” shows on Korean cable.
But there was one item in particular that caught my eye.
In the article, it was mentioned that the cable network OCN is still debating whether to pick up the popular NBC (a U.S. broadcast network) program, “Fear Factor,” because of concerns that Korean audiences may be put off by the “graphic nature of the show, which has participants eat insects . . .”
I couldn’t help but chuckle when reading this, thinking of the times I’d seen Koreans eat crickets as snacks in bars and boiled silkworm larvae in the streets. I think OCN doesn’t have to worry about such a “graphic” program being aired in Korea.
