“The Last Empress” team is headed to the Great White North. The long-running musical about Korea’s legendary Queen Min will be staged at Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts from August 5 to Sept. 11.
This engagement will be the longest of the show’s five foreign performances since 1997. “The Last Empress” will be featured as part of six subscription performances issued by Mirvish Productions, one of Canada’s biggest producers.
For “The Last Empress,” an audience of 40,000 is guaranteed. Korean distributor A-com International said this performance would be “The Last Empress’s” first profitable show abroad.
Assured of breaking even, the show can earn upwards of 1 billion won ($867,000) if more than 60,000 tickets are sold.
