According to the police report, Mr. Cho arrived at the Jamwon-dong residence at 2 a.m., saying he wanted to see their children, but the two ended up arguing over a proposed divorce. Ms. Choi was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment while the police questioned Mr. Cho.
Afterwards, Ms. Choi showed her place to reporters. Broken glass was scattered all over the living room and bedrooms, and chest drawers in the children’s rooms were pulled out.
According to Ms. Choi, Mr. Cho was drunk when he arrived, and then they continued drinking together at her place.
She said Mr. Cho was upset that Ms. Choi and her family recently went to Guam for vacation, but he could not afford to spend even 100,000 won ($86) a month. Ms. Choi went to the island to have her pictures taken for a woman’s magazine. Mr. Cho also told her that his life as a pitcher was over because of her.
Although the couple have been living separately since 2002, Ms. Choi has thus far refused to divorce her husband, despite his requests. She declined to comment more on divorce and said yesterday that she was going to file a restraining order against her husband.
